The Diary of Kaye
Telling Matt was going to be extremely hard. He cared about me a great deal, as I did for him. He was not only losing an employee but a friend. “You do know you can’t ignore me forever right?” I said sarcastically. “I can try.” He replied. “Very funny, listen I nee…” He interrupted before I could finish. “Yes Kaye, I know why you are here. You’re giving your two weeks notice.” He answered with an angry tone. “Matt, It’s just that….” He interrupted again, “Don’t explain, when is your last day?” He demanded. I knew he felt hurt that I was leaving him but he had to understand I needed to do what was best for me. “Well, I’m leaving next week for holiday, and then I come…” I tried to explain as empathically as I could, but he was quick to interrupt again. “Just forget it. Tell your new job you can start tomorrow.” He said as he stared into the computer screen. “Okay Matt, way to be mature about this.” I replied as I walked out the door. I knew he was only upset because he cared, and I felt horrible for storming out like that. I didn’t even go on the interview yet, and I was only going to explain to him I was thinking about getting another job. Now I had no choice. I had to make sure this restaurant was as welcoming to me as Tranquil.
